ALFA ROMEO - GIULIA / STELVIO - Titanium brake caliper pistons
  • GMS Titanium brake caliper pistons for Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio with steel brake rotors. Addressing braking performance issues on powerful and heavy car as Giulia and Stelvio are is an important matter of safety. Increasing power and grip, while not upgrading braking capability of your car can lead to severely overheated brake fluid, resulting in significant drop of braking performance and in worst case scenario to a complete loss of brakes. Higher tier brake pads and larger, track focused brake discs can cope with higher temperatures, but the extra temperature will now be transferred from the brake pads to the brake fluid, rendering it susceptible to boiling.

Stock aluminum brake pistons are light but very heat conductive, causing thermal energy from the brake pad to transfer easily to the brake fluid. Alloys of aluminum possess thermal conductivity of roughly 210 W/m-K compared to Titanium with only 17.0 W/m-K. As a result, aluminum is suitable for heat sinks, heat exchangers, and cookware, but not particularly good material for brake caliper pistons. Titanium, however, is a very poor conductor of heat, making it ideal material to be used for brake caliper pistons in high-end motorsport applications.

GMS Titanium brake caliper pistons are lighter than OEM brake pistons, yet stronger. They have unique crown pattern with 8 heat sink slots machined into the piston to limit piston to brake pad contact surface. This unique design and Ti6Al4V alloy being used as a material, results in the heat transfer from brake pads to brake fluid to be reduced by approximately 90%, vastly decreasing chance of brake fluid boiling. Titanium is a highly reactive metal. It’s stable because it self-passivates. This means that it quickly forms a thin oxide layer that prevents oxidation to continue. It’s also resistant to salt corrosion, so titanium pistons can be used without OEM piston dust boots which due to high temperature stress, simply don't last under demanding track and fast road driving conditions. You can choose between standard, high precision CNC machined surface finish or optional polished surface finish, reducing friction and wear of the O-rings.

If you are looking for a sorted out braking system for you Giulia or Stelvio Quadrifoglio, GMS Titanium brake caliper pistons are definitely a solid investment and important part of the braking upgrade to look into.
